I went fishing on Lanier Wednesday and was told by a guide that the fish had been very finicky and reluctant to commit. He told me I should use stingers on all baits, even the hand sized ones or I would miss a lot of fish. I end ended up missing 4-5 fish that gave a good tug then dropped the bait. I...

Re: Live bait at hooch

There is really no reason to fish at Morgan Falls dam....the river has plenty of striper downstream. I plan on totally avoiding the damn area if that is the focus of the NPS and DNR. I did not see any NPS or DNR on the river Sunday, but I was not up at the dam. The people I see fishing from the bank...

Re: Apalachacola Fl 6/7-6/10

I've fished those Air Force towers in the past and had very good luck around them. I want to say there are 3 or more within a reasonable distance from St. George Island. I will be staying in Apalachicola on July 6th and 7th. We are going to fish the bay if the wind/storms stay down and in the river ...

Just got off the hootch and it was pouring down rain, managed to catch one before the lightning came down. I agree though, rivers may be tough.

Ditto to what Dirk said about the hootch and the upper areas of Lanier/Allatoona. Kayak fishing would be a lot of fun in those areas over the summer. Welcome to the soup!

Shimano Tekota 600LC w/ 7" Ugly Stik

I have two Shimano Tekota 600LC reels paired with 7" Ugly Stik Striper (Medium heavy) rods for sale. They are about 6 months old and are in excellent mechanical condition (had limited use). The reels do have a couple of small nicks/scratches that you can see in the picture below. Great for pulling U...

Re: action camcorders

I am much happier with my GoPro 3 Silver edition since I added the BatteryPac to the setup. Once I have it framed correctly (using my iPhone as a viewfinder), I turn off the wifi connection and get a solid 3.5 hours recording time on a full charge at 1080p. The menu system is very clumsy, but once y...

Welcome to the Soup! I would enjoy talking to you about Nottely sometime as I used to bass fish there growing up as a kid. Never realized till recently that it was a great striper fishery!

Casting for Rainbows

I was on the lake this afternoon trying to catch bait and had a rainbow appear behind me as I was throwing the cast net. Pretty freaking cool as I could see where the rainbow ended on both sides of the lake. I did not see any Leprechaun's or pots of gold! I did score 4 dozen hand sized gizzards and ...

Re: Roanoke River flow above Smith Mountain

I'm with Dirk...would only try if I knew there were some big stripers up there. Even then, I would have to walk out there and measure the shallowest point on that rapid....if it was 5-6 inches deep over the rock, I would try (would need a straight shot up the river though, that would be nasty in a t...

Sarasota Bay 11.5.12

I had a business trip scheduled for Sarasota earlier this month and was able to meet up with my youngest brother (he lives in SW FL) for some fishing in Sarasota Bay. I hooked up with a guide named Rick Grasset and he put us on the fish. He is a certified FFF Fly Casting Instructor and Orvis Endorse...

Re: We now have trout!

Stopped by Hammonds today on the way to Lanier and your trout looked a lot better. They had 4-6" for 1.50 each but they were very pale and not real frisky. I had both gizzard and trout behind the boat today and both seemed to get attention. The bigger baits definitely saw more looks than the smaller...

Striper Newbie

Hi everyone, My name is John and I have recently become addicted to striper fishing. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta and grew up fishing mostly for largemouth bass and inshore saltwater fishing in the Florida panhandle (I have family there). Since getting married and starting a famil...
