Re: Striped Bass Challenge

Rick, I do not have a ball in this fight and I see both sides of the argument. I agree with Jim that it is more about the discussion. There is never a completely right or wrong answer to these types of arguments. I can tell you that there are not many Lanier striper fisherman who post of this site, ...

Re: Striper Soup high quality medium gizzards hit Lanier!!!

Nice!! I will definitely be getting some of these (assuming MikeMad doesn't buy them all before I get there). Now can you talk Larry into selling Shad Crack?? Not saying your wrong :chef: , but there are LOTS of BIG fish caught on "gay" herring every summer on Lanier. Not that it is my preference, I...

Re: Striped Bass Challenge

I agree it would be better for the fish and the tournament series if they used CPR. Striper tubes may give the fish a chance, but care for the fish goes well beyond just holding them until the weigh-in. There was a similar big money tournament on Lake Lanier a few weeks ago. I did not fish in it, bu...

Re: Talking about big striper online

David, I really enjoyed reading and agree 100% with your post above! I had the rare opportunity to fish with MikeMad on my boat last spring one day and we were joking around about starting a new club called "Big Fish Bastards" or BFB for short. I think you would be a good choice for president of thi...

Re: Coosa River in North Georgia

That is a great post Dirk! This is really the kind of info only available on the Soup. I am one of the lake fisherman you are talking about (although I have fished a few times in a river or two). After reading this post, I think I am going to give the Coosa some time this spring in my boat. I alread...

I would definitely like to plan a trip to TN with you this spring. :hellyea:

Re: Lanier DO levels very low 2013

To my knowledge there has never been a significant fish kill of any species fish on Lanier, as it is well known to have excellent water quality and maintains lots of cold water that normally has O2 all summer, but this year not so much. Lanier had some type of a fish kill this past year for large W...

Re: Unveiling the online store

Used the on-line store to buy a Dannco upgrade kit for my 30gal Super Bait tank. Mechandise was received in the same week. The installation was easy taking less than 15minutes, and the Dannco works great! :D

Thanks Shawn.

Now if we could only buy bait on line and have UPS deliver it to Buford.

They are talking wind gust to 70+mph. Who knows how high they will get on the lake. Not a good day for boating! Fish were probably turned on pretty good though this morning.

Re: Striper Tourney "best practices"

Mike, I am a member of The Oakwood Striper Club on Lake Lanier and we have one tournament every month. We fish in teams and the "weigh-ins" are for the two longest fish per team. We practice catch and release on all of our tournaments and only bring pictures to the weigh-ins. There is a random numbe...

Re: Wake bait?

Keith, As you already know I fish Lanier a "little" bit. The wake bait technique is one that will definitely catch fish on Lanier. On some rare days it seems to be the preferred technique and will get bites when nothing else seems to be working. Last Saturday I had a large striper hit the wake bait ...

Pretty Cool!

There are a couple of pairs of Bald Eagles on Lanier. Wonder if anyone could hand feed them? I am not sure I would want to even try, might loose a finger or two in the process.

I thought something looked off on the photo as well. I received it from my buddy, so I can not confirm the authenticity of the photo or the fish. But this was sent from my buddy's freind who is a guide up there. Main purpose was to illustrate the surgical tubing used to imitate an eel.

Caught this one on Lanier on 1/1/12. Just one day too late for the FYAOSBO. http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss207/JohnManSt/Stripers/LISoundHog.jpg jk. It was caught last summer, "somewhere in long island sound". But, it was caught using one of the surgical tubing artificial eels I talked about a...

Awesome trip and report Mike! I have a friend that grew up in the NE fishing for salty stripes. I have dreamed ab...

Re: Anybody on the board?

Hey Dirk, I hear the DNR has a stronger and better electronic fish stimulator on their boat. It helps them catch anything near their boat and all they need is a net. You might want to talk to them. :o Fished Sat and Sun on Lanier and got two fish entered in the FYAOSBO in two different classes. 8-) ...

Jerry, I like the video. I am sitting here at work during lunch and just watched it twice in a row. If I sit close to the monitor and turn up the sound, I almost feel I am on the boat with you. I think I could actually feel the boat rear end slipping on some of the sharp turns. Can't say I got my ri...
