Bait at West Point lake?

Post by Mickey Nightrain » August 8th, 2016, 10:16 pm

So im in a dilemma. The wife and I are now going to West Point with the kayak and SS is closed on wed. Are there any bait shops that sell shad near the lake? Also for river fishing would I go above the lake or below the dam?

Thanks for the help!

No bait shops that sell shad around the lake. There are stripers both on the north end of the lake and again below the dam. Just depends on which area you want to go to. The area below the dam is much more dependent on current generations. The north end is an early/late deal. If you get good water conditions shad are not needed and the fish will hit plugs and jigs pretty good.

Thanks Dustin, I think we're going to just bring some shiners and go below the dam. Wife doesn't want the trip to be all about fishing so hopefully we can get something to bite.

Water can come up fast and high very quickly down there. They are generating in the evening now, but I'd suggest being off the water when the Gen gets there. Ay some points it comes up 5 feet.

Pick West Point from the list to get pre scheduled Gen times

You can also call the phone number to get generation times at bottom of this pre schedule page
